Winter Park’s Center for Health and Wellbeing Opens with Two Martin Aquatic Pools
Situated inside the Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center, a new lap pool and activity pool help members with both their athletic and therapeutic goals, all as part of the center’s three-pronged platform for fitness, wholeness and medicine.
With the opening of the Center for Health & Wellbeing, the City of Winter Park, Florida, is gaining a consummate resource for healthy living. Under the roof of the 80,000-square-foot Center, medical offices are housed together with nutritional counseling and cooking spaces, as well as the Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center—the fitness component of the facility. The Crosby Wellness Center features all of the amenities in a state-of-the-art fitness center, including a swimming space designed by Martin Aquatic Design & Engineering (Martin Aquatic).
Both the 25-yard, 4-lane lap pool as well as the 1,400-square-foot activity pool feature an ADA sloped entryway for accessibility. Also, the activity pool is kept at a temperature of 88 degrees to serve as host to water aerobics, learn-to-swim classes, and other therapeutic activities for members with arthritis, fibromyalgia or chronic pain, and those recovering from joint replacement.
With the growing prevalence of water therapy as a new treatment option and the co-location of trained medical professionals at the Center for Health & Wellbeing, the warm water pool became an essential component of the natatorium. One unique element of this pool comes in the form of the ceiling: for members taking part in water therapy, they can float on their backs and look up at a dark ceiling with lights designed to look like stars.
