World Waterpark Show Honors Martin Aquatic with 2020 Leading Edge Award
During the 2020 World Waterpark Association’s Virtual conference and WWA Show, Martin Aquatic Design & Engineering was named a recipient of the organization’s distinguished “Leading Edge Award,” in recognition of our work on Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas waterslides. This marks the second year in a row that Martin Aquatic has earned this honor, one of the industry’s biggest awards.
The Leading Edge Award recognizes innovative projects and products, and this year’s entries showcased the best in waterpark amenities. Together with Royal Caribbean and WhiteWater West, Martin Aquatic brought industry-first waterslides to market onboard Navigator of the Seas. The Perfect Storm Complex of slides featured the longest aquacoaster at sea—the Blaster—as well as the cruise industry’s first and only headfirst mat racer. These two attractions were added in 2019 as part of a ship-wide revitalization, making Navigator of the Seas one of the most in-demand ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet.
As part of last year’s World Waterpark Show, the 2019 Leading Edge Award was presented to the same project team for their work on Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay. During this past week’s WWA virtual show, Martin Aquatic’s Josh Martin served as a presenter for the education session, “Behind The Scenes of Royal Caribbean’s Game-Changing Island Waterpark.” Comprised of the development team from Perfect Day at CocoCay, the 45-minute panel presentation showcased Thrill Waterpark, with its record-breaking waterslide tower. Registered attendees of WWA can access the presentation for on-demand viewing to learn all about the island’s 13 total waterslides, including Daredevil’s Peak, the tallest waterslide in North America.
