Construction Administration Director
Martin Aquatic is seeking a Construction Administration Director who will be responsible for overseeing the Post-Design services department. Post-Design services include submittal review, shop drawing review, OAC calls, On-Site observations, and handling cost estimations for our aquatic construction projects. The Director is expected to review drawings before they are issued for construction as a QA/QC check for constructability. Beyond these items, the Construction Administration Director will need to be able to review AutoCAD layouts, navigate a 3D model, create take-offs, work within the company systems, and create documentation to track all ongoing projects in the Estimation & Post-Design stage. The use of tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT, ACC, and ProCore for reviewing drawings and managing project communication is essential. This role requires a blend of technical skills and disciplined organizational project management. Responsibilities include multiple weeks of travel for on-site observations collaborating with project teams and expected to travel locally and out-of-state.
Candidate must be able to work with a team of designers and engineers. The successful candidate will work in Orlando, Florida and requires frequent travel across the US and abroad. This position requires a strong background in both office-based and field-based construction management.
The Director will lead a CA team of managers and administrators who will provide reviews and observations. It is the Directors goal to manage their team in an effective way to ensure the various construction projects are properly overseen. This will include schedule forecasting, project pre-planning, and full QA review in collaboration with Martin Aquatic’s engineering department.
Qualifications & Skills
- 8+ years in construction administration, ideally with aquatic or complex construction projects.
- Strong experience with reviewing structural calculations and rebar designs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional experience in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred, Licensed PE or SE highly preferred.
- Proficiency in reviewing blueprints, specifications, 3D Models, AutoCAD layouts, and experience using project management software such as ProCore, Bluebeam and Revit.
- Strong understanding of construction documents, including blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
- Proven ability to lead a team, establish workflows and implement document protocols.
- Strategic project planning examples of managing multiple deadlines at one time.
- Ability to create and manage short- and long-term forecasts for project timelines, resource needs, and budget requirements.
- Strong understanding of cost estimation, budget management, and resource planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be a self-starter and stay on task working towards extremely quick deadlines.
- Strong computer organizational skills in finding/sourcing/using various tools from company systems.
- Ability to coordinate with demanding contractors and prioritize issues.
- Able to coordinate with project managers internally.
- Presence in office daily (when not traveling) to oversee CA Department
Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee the post-design team, including managing team members responsible for submittal reviews, construction documentation, and on-site observations.
- Develop short and long-term forecast plans based on project timelines and upcoming construction phases.
- Create and manage documentation tracking for all active projects in the estimation and post-design stage, ensuring updates are logged in systems like AutoCAD, ProCore and internal tools.
- Conduct reviews of construction drawings, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings, identifying constructability concerns and providing timely feedback.
- Oversee cost estimation efforts and maintain budget oversight throughout the construction phase, aligning project finances with client expectations.
- Perform on-site observations to document project progress and compliance, coordinating with project teams to ensure timely execution. Previous field experience is essential for effectively evaluating construction practices and addressing issues on-site.
- Act as the primary point of contact for project-related communications with contractors, clients, and internal teams, providing regular updates and addressing issues proactively.
- Manage and mentor construction administrator, including training and development to enhance team performance.
- Manage employee reviews of CA team with individual development plans for each team member.
- Frequent travel to project sites, typically 1-3 days per trip, with monthly trips expected; longer stays may be required during critical construction phases.
