Martin Aquatic Wraps Up WWA Show with Big Award Win

During this past week’s World Waterpark Association Show, the Martin Aquatic team celebrated a well-received presentation, great meet-and-greets at our booth, and an award win for Thrill Waterpark at Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay.

This week, the World Waterpark Association hosted its annual tradeshow where all members of the industry converged on Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort for educational seminars, networking events, and recognition programs. With the event held in Martin Aquatic Design & Engineering’s backyard, we took full advantage by having several of our team members come out to walk the convention floor, talk with visitors at our booth, and even give an educational presentation.

However, for us, the highlight of the WWA Show came during the organization’s opening session—the awards banquet honoring individuals that have dedicated their careers to the industry and volunteers who have supported the organization’s goals in the past year. WWA also honors the top projects of the year, which it names its Leading Edge Award. This year, Martin Aquatic took home a top honor for its work with Royal Caribbean International and WhiteWater on the cruise line’s island waterpark at Perfect Day at CocoCay. Boasting the tallest water slide in North America, Thrill Waterpark has earned its share of accolades since it opened in May, and the Leading Edge Award is one that will be treasured by our team here at Martin Aquatic for years to come.

“This award represents all of the time and passion that we poured into this project,” said Josh Martin, president & creative director. “It is an absolute honor to share this award win with our partners Royal Caribbean and WhiteWater because Thrill Waterpark was a true collaboration of so many creative and talented professionals in the industry.”

Also during the WWA Show, Martin Aquatic’s Josh Martin and Studio Director JT Toavs gave a presentation about the benefits of including water park elements as part of community park aquatic centers. Called “How Waterpark Thrills can Pay Your Community Park Bills,” the presentation highlighted some of our projects that have added amenities such as slide towers, lazy rivers, leisure/adventure pools, and interactive water features as a way to drive attendance and increase ticket prices. Having these aquatic elements creates revenue dollars that can be put toward the construction costs of other municipal offerings like ball fields.

Lastly, we spent invaluable time on the trade show floor talking with our partners and gleaning insight about new products and services. We used the opportunity to unveil our new name and all new marketing materials, giving out logo pins and of course, Martin Aquatic mints. We look forward to seeing our partners at other shows throughout the year and returning to WWA Show in 2020 for the organization’s 40th year in Las Vegas.
